In the IP camera system, Switch is connected to IP camera for power supply in the following four ways:
Standard PoE switch is connected to PoE camera
Standard PoE switch is connected to Non- PoE camera
Non-PoE switch is connected to PoE camera
Non-PoE switch is connected to Non-PoE camera
A. Standard PoE switch is connected to PoE camera
This is the simplest of the four ways. You can directly connect a
network cable to a network camera that supports POE power from Standard PoE switch.
Pay attention to the following points:
(1) Check whether the POE switch and IP camera are standard POE devices.
(2) Before connecting the network cable, it is very important to check the quality of the network cable and confirm the specifications. If the quality of the network cable is unqualified or the specifications (IEEE 802.3af/802.3at standard) are inconsistent, the IP Camera cannot get power from standard PoE switch.
B. Standard PoE switch is connected to Non- PoE camera
In this way, the standard POE switch is connected to the non-PoE camera by a standard POE separator. Using the function of the standard POE separator, power is divided into data signals and power signals. The power output level is 5V, 9/12V, and matches non-POE camera with DC input and supports the IEEE 802.3af/802.3at standard.
C. Non-PoE switch is connected to PoE camera
In In this way, the switch is directly connected to the PoE adapter firstly. Then, the adapter inputs power signal and data signal to the
PoE camera by Ethernet cable.
Both PoE adapter and PoE camera follow IEEE 802.3af/802.3at standard. This method is mainly used to expand the network system and will not affect the original network system.
D. Non-PoE switch is connected to Non-PoE camera
In this way, there is two solutions as below:
The Non-PoE switch is directly connected to the POE adapter, then adapter is connected to Non-PoE camera by the PoE separator for power and data signal transmission.
Another solution is to supply Independent power directly by power cable, then just use Ethernet cable just for data signal transmission from Non-PoE switch to Non-PoE camera.
As a professional supplier of CCTV surveillance system, Elzoneta manufacture full series of Standard PoE switch and PoE camera, and products follow IEEE 802.3af/802.3at standard. For new CCTV project system, Elzoneta suggests to take the first connection way for standard PoE switch and PoE IP camera. Such this way is easy to installation and maintenance, also reduce the failure rate of power and video signal transmission, and ensure video surveillance system more stable.
